Chiropractic Treatment For Neck Pain

Neck pain is one of the most common ailments I treat as a Chiropractor. When you visit me I will conduct a detailed evaluation of your symptoms and assess whether the cause of your pain is suitable for Chiropractic treatment. Call (02) 9868 2509 now to make an appointment.

Common questions you will be asked include:

  • The type of symptoms you are experiencing. For example, whether the pain is confined to your neck, or whether you also have numbness and/or tingling extending into your shoulders, arms or hands
  • How long you have been in pain
  • If you have been taking painkillers or prescription meds
  • Whether you have already received other treatment for the pain
  • If any day to day activities make the pain worse or if anything you do seems to relieve the pain – even if only temporarily

Chiropractic is a proven, effective treatment for neck pain, but not all conditions causing pain are suitable for this type of treatment. Please contact me on (02) 9868 2509 to arrange your consultation. You can be confident that even if, after this initial consultation, your condition is not appropriate for chiropractic you will be referred to another healthcare practitioner for the correct treatment for your case.

The Most Common Causes of Neck Pain

For many of us, just growing older can make us more likely to experience neck pain. The likelihood of osteoarthritis and other degenerative conditions in the small vertebrae of the cervical spine rises as we age.

Tension and the stresses of modern living are often overlooked, but these are a very common cause of neck pain – and often associated with debilitating headaches as well.

Accident or injury can often be a cause. We have all heard of ‘Whiplash’, a neck injury often resulting from car accidents, but injuries from contact sports and muscle strains are also common.

Altered function of the vertebrae leading to pinched, compressed nerves can cause pain referred to other areas of the body as well as the neck.

There are also degenerative disease processes such as those associated with Rheumatoid Arthritisthat can cause neck pain. Thankfully, mechanical causes are much more likely than disease when it comes to tracking down the cause of pain.

The Effectiveness of Chiropractic Treatment for Pain

One of the best sources of information currently available on effectiveness of Chiropractic treatment for neck pain is the systematic analysis of the results of 41 controlled clinical trials published on the Chiropractic Resource Organisation website, chiro.org.

The findings were used to produce evidence-based guidelines for Chiropractic treatment of adults with neck pain. Their conclusions?

“interventions commonly used in chiropractic care improve outcomes for the treatment of acute and chronic neck pain” The authors also added that:

“increased benefit has been shown in several instances where a multimodal approach to neck pain has been used.” * *A multimodal approach uses a combination of Chiropractic techniques including manipulation, mobilisation, massage and exercises.
