Shoulder & Arm Pain
Chiropractic Treatment For Shoulder and Arm Pain
Shoulder and arm pain can be disruptive and debilitating. The cause might be easily pinpointed – an obvious injury or trauma, or it may be an injury caused by repetitive strain. Either way, the consequences can be equally troublesome, especially when pain stops us getting a good night’s sleep or getting on with day-to-day tasks.
Chiropractic Can Help
It is vital to pinpoint the cause of the problem so that the most appropriate treatment can be given. This is why any course of Chiropractic treatment always begins with a detailed assessment. You can book yours by calling (02) 9868 2509 today.
What Causes Shoulder and Arm Pain?
Neck injuries can cause referred pain in the shoulder and arm. Nerves that come from the spinal column vertebrae in the neck can be irritated or compressed if the cervical vertebrae get misaligned as a result of accident, trauma, postural problems or repetitive injury.
This can lead to pain and muscle numbness or weakness being felt in the shoulder or arm although the root cause of the problem is in the neck. Often other symptoms such as headache and dizziness can be experienced by patients.
Injury to the Rotator Cuff, the group of muscles and tendons in the shoulder that connect the upper arm to the shoulder blade providing stability to the shoulder and allowing it to rotate.
Rotator Cuff Tear. An injury to the rotator cuff tendon can cause arm weakness and pain and may be a complete or partial tear.
Frozen Shoulder (the common name for the medical condition ‘Adhesive Capsulitis’). A surprisingly common condition and one that gradually gets worse over several weeks or months. Pain worsens and mobility in the shoulder decreases as inflammation increases. The shoulder joint is unable to function properly and ultimately, any movement is very difficult and painful.
Tendonitis. Is caused by repeated use of the arms above the head, such as painting a ceiling or throwing a cricket ball is another painful injury.
Rotator Cuff impingement causes symptoms similar to Tendonitis. The tendons are squeezed between two bones, the Humerus and the Acromion.
Bursitis. This can occur when the small sac of fluid (the bursa) that cushions the tendons in the rotator cuff from the Acromion bone becomes inflamed.
